2/12/2018 0 Comments EI Evaluation GoalsI am a former university instructor and trend-setting online instructional designer who went to work in an impoverished northern California school. I became a teacher and volunteer who was ostracized, hunted and assaulted for publicly promoting a civil rights (political) platform. Because I was under the attack of colleagues, neighbors and law enforcement, I ran to Africa: An American Refugee. During the crisis, I found my voice and international support within the Reggae community and UNESCO. When I returned home, it was as a Village Ambassador, wife of an Islamic Imam. During my graduate studies at Chico State, I have grown to realize that my experience has given me the insight and ability to develop a lesson about how emotional awareness relates to resilience. I have just learned to define non-cognitive skills* and believe that an understanding of these will help facilitate the development of this lesson. I want to learn how to construct evaluation questions that measure emotional awareness, and I want to understand how to correlate the answers with levels of resilience. Formative assessment is useful because it helps everyone understand where a student is in relation to learning goals; this allows the development of individual learning paths. Summative assessment has shortcomings when it is used as the measure of successful mastery of a topic because it does not account for disparities in racial and ethnic hierarchies of intelligence that allow or hinder information acquisition due to culture and genetics**. *Zhou, K. (2016). Non-cognitive skills: Definitions, measurement and malleability. Paper commissioned for the Global Education Monitoring Report 2016, Education for people and planet: Creating sustainable futures for all. **Suzuki, L. and Aronson, J. (2005). The cultural malleability of intelligence and its impact on the racial/ethnic hierarchy. American Psychological Association. Psychology, Public Policy, and Law 11(2), 320-327. My classmates empathize, but do not relate well enough to communicate.
I must learn how to teach them
